The Souper Celebration at the SC State Farmers’ Market

While the Super Bowl that we all know is Sunday, February 5th, all through the month of January, the SC State Farmers' Market, south of Columbia is having the "Souper Bowl".  SC Ag Commissioner Hugh Weathers explains that the Souper Bowl of Caring at Judy's Restaurant in the Corbett Building is featuring a Souper Celebration culminating on Saturday, February 4.

The Souper Bowl of Caring is an effort by more than 15,000 groups and organizations throughout the country generating over $9.5 million in cash and food items in 2011,  100 percent of the money collected is given direclty to hunger-relief chariities in local communities.  Since Souper Bowl of Caring began in 1990 more than $81 million has been collected from participants in all 50 states.

Mr. Weathers also explains that this effort also brings attention to the Farmers' Market during the slowest time of year helping drive traffic for farmers at the market.
