The Economic Perspective: “Disrupters of the Economy”

This is Mary Walden with economist MW, welcoming you to the economic perspective.   Today’s program looks at disrupters of the economy.  Mike, you and I have lived long enough to know much of the world doesn’t stay the same.  There are always big forces reshaping and remaking our world.  Scholars refer to these forces as disrupters.  What are the key disrupters today impacting our economy>


Mike:  Summary Answer

  1. Globalization is changing – becoming more regionalized and less global
  2. Technological change is happening at an accelerated pace – iphone – a decade
  3. Aging population – migration and productivity are more important
  4. Those embracing change do better – and gap between them and the rest is expanding
  5. Biggest challenge is yet to come – change in occupations and required training due to technological unemployment
