OIG: Checkoff Audit Finds No Evidence of Wrongdoing

A recently completed audit by the Office of the Inspector General of the beef checkoff has determined that the $52 million program is operating according to law and USDA regulations. Specifically addressing allegations that beef checkoff funds may have been misused, the authors of the report said, they found no evidence to support that the board’s activities did not comply with legislation, and AMS guidelines and policies.

Bill Bullard, CEO of R-CALF USA says the OIG findings are contradictory by calling for further protections – but also saying the checkoff program is working and there are no problems with the Cattlemen Beef Board’s administering of it…

“They found nothing wrong with the way the Cattleman’s Beef Association were administering the program, but at the same time they said they recommended that they increase their oversight program.”

The Cattleman’s Beef Board administers the beef check off and R-CALF USA receives no check off dollars.
