South Carolina’s Charleston-based Food Hub

Food Hub is a new buzz word in reference to locally grown produce.  SC Ag Commissioner Hugh Weathers says that a Food Hub services smaller farmers and retailers, usually in a small geographic area to distribute fresh fruits and vegetables for ease and convenience to both.  Charleston's  GrowFood  is just shy of a year old and aquires produce and items from 30 local farms within a 120 mile radius,  and services 85 restaurants and 3 grocery stores.  Since opening GrowFood has sold more than $165,000 in produce from the 30 farms it services.
