Small USDA Division Office in NC Among 259 to Close

The Raleigh field office for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Services division is on a target list for closure as part of the agency’s plan to shave $150 million from its $145 billion budget.

The Raleigh office, located at 3109 Poplarwood Court in Raleigh, serves as a retailer authorization center for North Carolina, Kentucky and Mississippi on behalf of the agency’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the program commonly known as the food stamp program.
The USDA Food and Nutrition Service also oversees the Women, Infants and Children program (WIC), school meals and food assistance for disaster relief.
