SCDA Inspection Proceedures at Farmers’ Markets

South Carolina's Ag Commissioner Hugh Weathers explains that there's been some confusion as to who regulates farmers' markets and roadside stands around the state.  SCDA is responsible for their three state-supported farmers' markets, but not unprocessed produce at privately-owned roadside stands and markets.  However, if the product is processed, contained and labeled, SCDA is responsible for the accuracy of the label in reference to the contents, as well as the proccessing.
