SC Commissioner Weathers: UK Trade Trip 2022

Commissioner Hugh Weathers recently visited the UK as part of a trade mission, and he’s here to tell us about it:

I was in the UK with some other commissioners of agriculture and leaders from NASDA, the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture.

It’ll be three years since Brexit in January.

We continue to explore opportunities for South Carolina and US producers to export to the UK, and work on addressing trade barriers between our countries.

We met with some key officials from:

  • the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
  • the Department for International Trade
  • the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB)
  • the National Farmers Union

Also visited:

  • A Welsh sheep farm
  • Yeo Valley Organic dairy operation
  • GrowPura vertical farm and research site operated by Unilever
  • AC Goatham & Son, a 3,000-acre, family-owned apple and pear producer
  • Among others
