SC Commissioner Weathers: Eastern Produce Council a Major Marketing Outreach

South Carolina ag commissioner Hugh Weathers is here to tell us more about an upcoming annual event hosted by the SC Dept. of Agriculture.

  • Next week, Katie Pfeiffer, SCDA’s Market Development Coordinator, and Ginny Gohagan, our Peach and Watermelon Marketing Specialist, will attend the 50th anniversary of SCDA’s Eastern Produce Council event in New Jersey.
  • We use this event to network and develop methods for expanding South Carolina products into this territory.
  • The night helps us to showcase Certified SC branding and the crops our state has to offer. For many years, Assistant Commissioner, Martin Eubanks, attended. We are happy to continue to host this meeting in his memory.
  • Events like EPC and other trade shows help us promote one of South Carolina’s most beloved fruits: peaches.
  • Even with the freeze in March, we will still have South Carolina peaches this summer.
  • Volume may be lighter in May due to some damage to earlier varieties, but the rest of the summer should be back to normal, and you can expect to find our tasty SC peaches at farmer’s markets, farm stores, and retail stores.
