SC Commissioner Weathers: Boot to Agribiz Bootcamp This Week
Servicemembers who are transitioning out of the military have some opportunities to learn about agriculture careers with the South Carolina Department of Agriculture.
This week, SCDA will be hosting a Farmer Bootcamp called Boots to Agribiz.
This project is in cooperation with Palmetto Veterans in Agribusiness, an organization connected with Project Victory Garden and the Farmers Veteran Coalition of South Carolina.
Through this two-day training event, servicemen and women interested in farming or agriculture have the opportunity to get hands-on farming experience and to meet with ag experts.
The vets spend one day in the classroom and another day on the farm.
It’s being hosted on the farm of one of our own employees, an Army veteran who now grows specialty crops including peppers, muscadines and other crops in Lexington County.
Palmetto Veterans in Agribusiness also has an agribusiness internship program for veterans. And this year they will be hosting a Veteran Agribusiness Outreach Fair.
