SC Commissioner Weathers: Ag Road Safety

SC Ag Commissioner Hugh Weathers is here to tell us all more about how to stay safe on the roads alongside farm equipment.

  • Harvest is still in swing in South Carolina. Some crops like peanuts are being shelled, packaged, and delivered at a rapid rate.
  • With more harvesting and transporting we see an increase in farm equipment on the road.
  • During this time, it’s important to remember to watch out for farmers moving heavy equipment and loads on our state’s back roads.
  • Farmers- make sure that your equipment is visible and working properly. Use flashers and lights when you can to improve visibility
  • Motorists- remember to slow down in plenty of time and to only pass when it’s safe to do so. Be mindful of the size of the farm equipment around you
  • Be especially aware of slow-moving vehicles on the road that could stop at any time.
  • Most importantly, let’s all remember to be patient with each other as SC farmers move the products we know and love.
