Private Analytical Firm Forecasts 2012 Cotton Production Down

Private analytical firm Informa Economics estimated today US all cotton production at 15.5M, down 173,000 from USDA's January forecast and 2.6M lower than last season due to a combination of lower acreage and yield, according to traders. Informa's estimate was based on analysis of January 15 Cotton Ginnings report and Jan 26 cotton classings report, traders said. USDA will release its annual cotton production estimate in its May 1 Crop Production report.
