Opportunities for careers in the Pork industry

As you probably know, the pork industry is HUGE in North Carolina. And analysts are predicting the price of pork could soar. But last week, the pork market was mixed. For more on this we go to economist R. Ron Plain:

“It was a break even week in hog markets with prices a bit lower. Hog prices were steady to a dollar lower, carcass prices at the plants in the mid 70s, the cash market was down a dollar. Exports down 3% compared to November 2012, Imports up 14%. Live hog imports down 16%.”

Once again that was economist with the University of Missouri Dr. Ron Plain.

Scholarships Available for Students

In other Pork News, the Pork Checkoff is taking applications for scholarships for those interested in pursuing a career in the swine industry. For more, we talk to Dr. Chris Hostetler:

“These scholarships are targeted for students currently juniors or seniors. We want students who are dedicated to a career in the pork industry through either production or contract finishing etc. Or students who are interested in continuing their education in the form of a graduate degree.”
