NPPC CEO Speaks Out About Egg Bill
The companion to House legislation introduced earlier has now been introduced in the Senate. Along with other housing changes that would be phased-in over the next 15 to 18 years – the Egg Products Inspection Act Amendments of 2012 would require egg producers to essentially double the space allotted per hen. National Pork Producers Council CEO Neil Dierks says the measures in the House and Senate have far too big an impact on consumers for them to be introduced without any public hearings or debate. He also questions why – when our nation’s economy is so fragile – we are allowing special interest groups to draft legislation that would place a significant financial burden on American consumers, federal nutrition programs and American farmers. According to Dierks – the bill sets a very dangerous precedent for all farmers and consumers.
