North Carolina Small Grain Grower Association May Field Days Scheduled
Lumberton, NC –Four field day events have been scheduled by the North Carolina Small Grain Growers Association to provide farmers and those interested in small grain research the opportunity to see new variety development, disease and insect control, the latest fungicide recommendations, fertilizer use and agronomy work. Growers may learn how to improve yields for higher net returns on their farm investments.
Field day events are scheduled in Raleigh, Rowland, Aurora and Salisbury, between May 1st and May 15th, with all events being held in the afternoon.
The Association assists North Carolina growers with Education, Promotion, Research and Marketing. Each year it sponsorsfour field days across the state funded by assessment dollars and with help from USDA/ARS and North Carolina State University.
This year, Dr. Randy Weisz, NCSU, Small Grain Specialist is leader for the field day in Salisbury. Georgia Love Project Leader for Rowland, Jacob Searcy in Beaufort County, and Dr. David Marshall at the USDA/ARS facility in Raleigh.
The first field day will be held in Raleigh on May 1, 2012, from 2:00 p.m. -5:00 p.m, at the USDA/ARS Field Lab, 3512 Mid Pine Road, Raleigh, NC 27603. Directions: Coming from East of Raleigh, I-40 West to Exit 295 Gorman Street, Left onto Gorman, at 2nd light Left onto Tryon, Drive 0.3 miles to Mid Pines Road on right, Right onto Mid Pines road, Drive 1 mile to 3512 Mid Pine Road, ARS metal building on right.
Coming from West of Raleigh, I-40 East to Exit 295 Gorman Street, right on Gorman, At 1st light, Left on Tryon, Drive 0.3 miles to Mid Pines Road on right, right on Mid Pines Road, Drive 1mile to 3512 Mid Pines Rd, ARS metal building on right.

The second filed day will be one week later, May 8, 2012, at Wilton Shooter and Sons Farm, Rowland, NC 28383, beginning with a 4:00 PM Registration, Field tours start at 4:30 PM. This is located 1 mile north of Rowland on Highway 301, on right of highway.
The Beaufort County Field Day will take place at Granny Branch Farms (Sid Cayton) in Aurora, NC on May 10, 2012, Registration begins at 4:00 PM, Field Tours at 4 :30 PM. The plot is located 2.6 miles east of Aurora on NC Highway 33.
And on May 15, 2012, the Piedmont Research Station in Salisbury will host the final field day. Registration at 3:30 PM, Field Tours at 4:00 PM. From Interstate I-85 take exit 75 for US-601 N/Jake Alexander Blvd., and go .2 miles, Turn right onto Jake Alexander Blvd South for 1.9 miles, Turn left on N Carolina 150 W/Mooresville Rd., go 1.5 miles, Turn right onto Sherrills Ford Rd and travel 6.2 miled and travel to 8350 Sherrills Ford Rd, Salisbury, NC 28147
