At the 2 weekly livestock auctions held Monday at Turnersburg and Siler City a total of 815 cattle and 22 goats were sold. Compared to the previous sales, slaughter cattle were mostly steady to $3.00 higher. Feeder steers were mostly steady to $5.00 lower, heifers were mostly steady to $7.00 lower, bulls mostly steady to $9.00 lower. Demand and buyer activity were moderate. Offerings of cattle were mostly moderate while cattle quality varied plain to average. Average dressing slaughter cows brought $45.00-$63.00, with high dressing up to $66.00. Average dressing slaughter bulls, 1000 lbs. & up, sold from $78.00-$87.00, with high dressing $90.00-$95.00. 400-500 lbs. M&L 1-2 feeder steers ranged $130.00-$154.00, 500-600 lbs. were $131.00-$148.00. M&L 1-2 feeder heifers, 400-500 lbs. were $120.00-$135.00, 500-600 lbs. were $123.00-$168.00. M&L 1-2 feeder bulls, 400-500 lbs. ranged $130.00-$154.00.
N.C. Broiler-Fryers: The market is steady and the live supply is adequate to meet the moderate demand. Average weights are desirable to heavy. The estimated slaughter for Tuesday in North Carolina is 3,108,000 head compared to 3,041,000 head last Tuesday.
N.C. Eggs: The market is steady on all sizes. Supplies are moderate. Retail demand is moderate to good. Weighted average prices for small lot sales of grade A eggs delivered to nearby retail outlets: Extra Large 203.62, Large 203.15, Medium 134.86 and Small 84.00.

Sweet Potatoes: demand moderate. Report issued Monday and Thursday. 40 pound cartons Orange Types U.S. No. 1 13.00-16.00 some 12.00-12.50 few higher, U.S. No. 1 Petite 10.00-14.00, U.S. No. 2 8.00-9.00 some low as 6.50 high as 10.00, No Grade Marks jumbo 8.00-10.00 few higher occasional lower.

Apples: supply fairly light. Demand fairly good. Most shippers are finished for the season. Cartons 12 3-pound film bags Red Delicious U.S. Extra Fancy 2 1/2″ minimum/up supplies insufficient and in too few hands to establish a market; Golden Delicious U.S. Extra Fancy 2 1/2″ minimum/up supplies insufficient and in too few hands to establish a market. U.S. 2 yellow shelled corn was 2 cents lower when compared to the previous day. Prices ranged $3.75-$4.32 at feed mills and $3.35-$4.17 at elevators; new crop $3.80-$4.40. U.S. 1 yellow soybeans were 7 cents lower; prices were $9.40 at the processors and $8.86-$9.31 at the elevators; new crop $9.65-$9.85. U.S. 2 soft red winter wheat was 2 cents lower, prices were $3.87-$4.02 at the feed mills and $3.47-$3.71 at the elevators; new crop $3.77-$4.51. Soybean meal, f.o.b. at processing plants, was $354.70 per ton for 48% protein.
