Market Summary: NC Broiler & Fryer Weights Desireable

At the livestock auction held Thursday at Smithfield a total of 523 cattle and no goats were sold. Slaughter cows trended mostly $1.00 to $5.00 higher, feeder steers trended mostly steady to $2.00 higher, and heifers trended mostly steady to $10.00 lower when compared to the previous sale. Average dressing slaughter cows brought $68.50 to $82.50. Average dressing slaughter bulls, 1000 lbs. & up, sold at $80.00 to $92.50 with high dressing up to $96.50. M&L 1-2 feeder steers, 400-500 lbs. brought $127.00 to $146.00, 500-600 lbs. brought $119.00 to $140.00. 400-500 lb. M&L 1-2 feeder heifers ranged $107.00 – $131.00 and 500-600 lbs. were $97.00 – $129.00.

 

N.C. BROILER-FRYERS: The market is steady and the live supply is adequate to meet the moderate demand. Average weights are mostly desirable. The estimated slaughter for Friday and Saturday in North Carolina is 2,948,000 head compared to 2,802,000 head last Friday and Saturday.

The N.C. egg market is higher on all sizes. Supplies are light. Retail demand is good. Weighted average prices for small lot sales of Grade A eggs delivered to nearby retail outlets: Extra Large 141.27, Large 140.50, Medium 119.95 and Small 88.00.

No. 2 yellow shelled corn trended 11 cents higher when compared to last report. Prices ranged $7.02-$7.42 at feed mills and $6.73-7.27 at elevators. No. 1 yellow soybeans trended 21 cents higher and were $15.28 at processors, and $14.34-$14.89 at elevators. No. 2 red winter wheat was 5 cents lower and was $5.33 at the elevators. Soybean meal, f.o.b. at processing plants, was $495.10 per ton for 48% protein.
