Florence stormwater consortium selling rain barrels at a discount

The Florence Darlington Stormwater Consortium, in conjunction with Keep Florence Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup, is offering Ivy rain barrels for sale for a limited time. The barrels are discounted to encourage residents to conserve precious water resources and protect water quality.

Through this special promotion, the rain barrels cost $63. The normal retail price is $109. The rain barrels can be purchased directly through the program’s website using a credit card.

Order now and pick up barrels between 10 a.m. and noon March 23 at Timrod Park (in the parking lot between the tennis courts and Timrod Park Drive) in Florence. Quantities are limited.

Rain barrels help residents conserve water, prevent water pollution and reduce sedimentation in area lakes, rivers and streams.

The barrels capture rooftop runoff by connecting to gutters and downspouts. This water typically would flow across the landscape and could pick up contaminants and contribute to flash flooding.

Water collected by the rain barrels can be used for a wide array of outside uses, including watering flowers or gardens and or washing automobiles or pets.

The Florence Darlington Stormwater Consortium is a regional collaboration involving the Carolina Clear program in partnership with communities and educators from universities, state agencies and nonprofits.
