Farmville Applicator Finalist for Applicator of the Year

Every year for the last eight years, AGCO has asked their fertilizer applicator retailers to nominate a worthy individual for the Application Equipment Operator of the Year award.

Only four individuals nominated from North America are selected as finalist, and Tony Randolph, fertilizer applicator for Southern States in Farmville, NC has one of those coveted spots. Randolph explains why he thinks he was nominated:

“I think the customers had a lot to do with it because it seems like I have such a bond with them. Once you get to the point you have a personal relationship outside of work, its hard to describe. Sometimes a customer might call me on a Sunday afternoon just to see how I’m doing and give me a quick run down on the crops and that he appreciates the job I’m doing. I was super excited when my supervisor told me I was nominated. Then once he told me I was one of the finalists I said WOW!”

Randolph talks a little bit about the AGCO fertilizer applicator he’s been operating since 2010:

“Usually when they bring me a load of fertilizer, they have a weigh ticket. Once I punch that into the computer, it calibrates it all. A lot of the customers like to ride with it to see how close it is and to be sure they are getting the right amount on the ground. “

Randolph feels he’s already won just being a finalist:

“I’m just so excited about the whole thing and ready to go down to see what its all about. Its my first time getting on an airplane and will be my first time in Florida.”

The Application Equipment Operator of the Year Award will be presented December 4th at the Ag Retailers Association annual convention in Miami, Florida. The winner receives a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which Randolph says would come in handy doing charity work with his motorcycle club in the Farmville area. is dedicated to serving the agricultural industry in the Carolinas and Virginia with the latest ag news, exclusive regional weather station readings, and key crop market information.
