Farm Bill Possible Yet This Year

There is some indication that a new farm bill could be voted on by Congress before the upcoming Presidential election. House Ag Committee Chairman Frank Lucas is waiting on House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s committee to complete its agricultural budget for 2013.

Farm state lawmakers would like to have a new farm bill this year, to avoid deeper cuts to farm programs. It is feared that during a lame-duck session a grand deficit bargain could be negotiated and agriculture could lose.
