Bayer CropScience Offers Suggestions on Maintaining On-farm Supply of Liberty Herbicide

Eric Peters, Product Manager for soybean herbicides for Bayer CropScience discusses the availability of herbicides for the LibertyLink system:

“It has seen a pretty good increase in demand the last few years, and that’s because the system offers many benefits. One of those benefits is a high performing system with the opportunity to manage resistant weeds with Liberty Herbicide. And even if you don’t have resistant weeds, it gives you the opportunity to change up your mode of action so you can try to prevent weed resistant issues in the future. Demand for Liberty has increased. We have also increased our supply. Bayer is also investing so we have more availability of Liberty herbicide in the future as we anticipate the demand will continue to increase and we want to make sure there is an adequate supply in the coming years."

So, Peters offers these suggestions for producers using the Liberty system to insure they have the herbicides they need for the coming year:

“As soon as growers book their LibertyLink seed, they should see their crop protection retailer and make sure they know the number of LibertyLink acres you have and that you need the Liberty herbicide to spray on those crops. Bayer has put in place the “Link Up” system this year so the retailer can have a place to input that forecast. That will help the channel to better understand and supply properly. And it is directed to the cotton, canola and soybeans.”

In addition to an effective tool, Peters feels that Bayer CropScience is working to make the LibertyLink system a viable, long-term system for growers:

“I think that the LibertyLink system is a high performing system that the growers are happy with and the reuse intentions are high. As more people try it, we do see that the system will continue to be in demand and Bayer is investing to make sure that there is adequate supply of Liberty herbicide for the coming years.”
