Animal Research Minute – Research with Mice and Alzheimer’s Disease
Could new research with mice lead to a breakthrough in Alzheimer’s disease?
Well the Orange County Register reports that researchers are studying mice that have been bred to
develop mouse versions of Alzheimer’s and will implant human neural stem cells in these mice.
Scientists have already studied the effects of mouse stem cells in mice and found they greatly improved
the animals’ memories. Studying the effects of human neural stem cells is the important next step in
understanding how stem cells work and whether they could be viable treatments for people living with
Alzheimer’s disease.
