Animal Research Minute – New Drug with Wide-ranging Uses
Could an experimental drug treat diabetes, autoimmune diseases and even cancer?
Well, according to the Yale Daily News, a new drug under study has the potential to treat a wide-range of diseases from diabetes to cancer. The drug called Teplizumab is now being studied in mice with type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune disorder. In mice with type 1 diabetes, the drug stopped the body from attacking its own insulin-producing cells. Scientists think with more research the drug could be used to stop other autoimmune diseases in people, including cancer.
