That’s because new research out of Johns Hopkins suggests new nerve cells formed in a select part of the brain could hold considerable sway over how much you eat, and consequently, how much you weigh. Researchers studied mice lacking new neurons and found they gained significantly less weight and fat than mice with these new neurons. By understanding how new neurons affect our weight and appetites, researchers think better treatments for obesity and obesity-related diseases could be underway.
