Animal Research Minute – Have scientists found a way to successfully treat bladder cancer?
Well, the tuberculosis vaccine is often used as a treatment for bladder cancer, and researchers at the University of Rochester Medical Center have discovered that adding vitamin D to the TB vaccine could make it even more effective. In studies with mice, scientists found a combination of vitamin D therapy and the TB vaccine greatly improves bladder cancer survival. It seems that increasing vitamin D levels wakes up cells and triggers an immune response whenever infection or inflammation is present.
