Animal Research Minute – Could a new discovery help people recovering from stroke?

Well, researchers at Stanford University School of Medicine have shown that removing a matched set of
molecules in the brain could speed and improve recovery from stroke even days after the event. In
studies with mice, scientists demonstrated that when these molecules were gone, mice recovered from
strokes significantly better. Right now, the only stroke treatment must be given within a few hours of
the stroke to be effective, but this study with mice could lead to more effective ways to improve
recovery from stroke.
