Animal Research Minute – Could a cure for Type 1 diabetes be a possibility in the near future?

Well, Bloomberg reports scientists have developed a therapy that reverses Type 1 diabetes in mice and could one day do the same for people. The treatment works by re-teaching the immune system and causing the growth of new insulin-producing cells. With more research, this study with mice could one day lead to a treatment that reverses Type 1 diabetes – a disease that affects about 3 million Americans, many of whom are children.
