Animal Research Minute – Breakthrough in Prostate Cancer
Did you know scientists have found a genetic mutation linked to prostate cancer?
Well, according to the John Hopkins University Gazette, a team of scientists have identified a rare, inherited mutation that is likely linked to prostate cancer in men. Men with this mutation are 10 to 20 times more likely to get prostate cancer than men without it. The next step is to study this mutation in a mouse model. This research could lead to more effective screening and treatments for the nearly 250,000 men diagnosed with prostate cancer in the U.S. every year.
