Ag Groups Unite in Call for House Action on Farm Bill
As agricultural groups responded to passage of the House Agriculture Committee’s farm bill – they also stressed the importance of moving the measure as quickly as possible to the House floor. On Friday – 46 ag and commodity groups joined together in sending a letter to House Speaker John Boehner and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to urge them to bring the legislation up for a vote. The letter noted the representation of a wide range of interests – but a united view that the bill should receive floor time and be finalized on schedule this year. The groups also expressed that an extension of the current farm bill would not adequately address the needs of farmers, ranchers, foresters, those in need of food assistance at home and abroad, conservation, rural communities or food and agricultural research.
