NC Commissioner Troxler: State Fair Junior Livestock Scholarship Applications Now Open

High school seniors and college students who participated in the N.C. State Fair Junior Livestock shows are eligible to apply for a $2,000 scholarship for an institute of higher learning. The deadline to apply is March 1.

  • The deadline is coming up on March 1 for youth who participated in the N.C. State Fair Livestock Shows to apply for a $2,000 scholarship for an institute of higher learning.

  • As listeners may remember, a portion of the money raised through the annual N.C. State Fair Livestock Sale of Champions goes into scholarships for any young person who competes in the livestock shows. In 2024, the sale brought in $213,000 in total.

  • This year, up to 25 $2,000 scholarships are available, plus an additional $2,500 Farm Credit of N.C. Premier Scholarship is offered.

  • Since the program started, it has awarded more than $460,000 in scholarships, which is something I am very proud of.

  • Higher education costs have gone up since I was in school, so I know these scholarship are helpful to young people pursuing their career ambitions.

  • Scholarships can be used for tuition at universities, community colleges and technical schools.

You can find the application online at www.ncstatfair.org. Completed application packages must be returned to the State Fair postmarked by March 1 to be eligible.
