The National Pork Board’s Swine Extension and Outreach Professionals Group is made up of university professors and-or extension professionals at U.S. colleges and universities. Sarah Schieck-Boelke is a swine extension educator at the University of Minnesota and says this group is at the forefront of getting needed information to producers.
“Most of them offer either extension or outreach programs in the area of swine. The Swine Extension Outreach Professionals are actively engaged in higher education, and they may not only teach and train students in their role but also teach and train caretakers, as well as producers and others within swine management.”
The members of this group must stay connected to other swine industry groups.
“Many in the group are subject matter experts in their area of expertise, and I feel that they can add value and insight on priority areas that the National Pork Board’s Board of Directors has for the swine industry and are focusing their efforts on. Another reason, I feel, is members of the group are also the boots on the ground, interacting with producers and caretakers, not only to help carry out programs and increase the reach of the National Pork Board and state associations but can also offer feedback on programs and resources.”
National Pork Board recognizes and thanks these professionals for their service and expertise. Pig farmers should connect with their regional or state extension agency for resources to help in swine production.
