SC Commissioner Weathers: Fall is Agritourism Season

It’s fall, and to many people that means pumpkin patches and hayrides. Commissioner, tell us what South Carolina agritourism farms are doing this October.

Fall is an especially busy time for agritourism farms.

Pumpkin patches, hayrides, corn mazes, trick-or-treat events, harvest festivals…

We continue to see an increase in agritourism.

Definition: agriculture-based activities that bring people to farms, ranches or other agricultural settings.

For farmers, it offers an additional revenue source and can help offset the uncertainty of farming.

In the latest Census of Agriculture, SC farms reported that between 2017 and 2022, farm income from agritourism in South Carolina grew from $6.2 million to $14 million.
