NC Commissioner Troxler: Diamond Shruumz Recall

The NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) has issued a warning against buying and consuming Diamond Shruumz-brand chocolate bars, cones and gummies after the products have been associated with 78 people in 28 states becoming ill, with 65 of those seeking medical care and 40 being hospitalized. FDA has recalled all brands of the Diamond Shruumz-brand chocolate bars, cones and gummies and NCDA&CS inspectors are continuing to check retail locations for products that may still be on store shelves. If consumers find these products for sale, they are asked to report it.

  • Food safety is one of the top priorities of our department because food safety is an issue that can impact us all and can lead to serious issues.
  • Our Food and Drug Protection Division last week issued a warning to consumers not to buy or consume Diamond Shruumz-brand chocolate bars, cones and gummies.
  • This warning comes after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a nationwide recall of all Diamond-Shruumz products after 78 people in 28 states became ill after consuming products.
  • Sixty-five of the 78 sought medical care and 40 have been hospitalized, which speaks to the seriousness of this recall.
  • In addition to warning consumers, our Food and Drug Inspectors are out canvassing the state looking to see if any of these products may still be on the shelf.
  • Some people may not be aware of these products, but they were sold online and at a variety of retail locations including smoke or vape shops and retailers that sell hemp-derived products such as CBD or Delta 8 THC.
  • It is important to point out that these products may appeal to children and teenagers, so parents and caregivers should talk to their kids about this recall and advise against consuming these products.
  • If you or someone you know has these recalled products, you should discard them or return them to the company for a refund.
  • FDA advised consumers to call their healthcare provider or the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222 if they become ill after consuming these products.
  • I am grateful our inspectors are out checking retail stores in recall situations like this one.
  • They have also been actively checking grocery stores for products involved in the sliced meat recall that has been in the news lately.
  • They are working hard to protect consumers.
