- The National Association of Conservation Districts has designated the week of April 28-May 5 as Stewardship Week.
- In South Carolina, there are 46 Soil and Water Conservation Districts, each operated by a board of commissioners.
- Conservation districts promote the wise use of soil and water resources in their area.
- This year the theme of the National Association of Conservation Districts’ Stewardship Week is “May the Forest be with You, Always.”
- This is one of the nation’s largest initiatives dedicated to promoting the conservation of natural resources.
- Our partners over at the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and the South Carolina Association of Conservation Districts have some great activities planned to celebrate.
- The general public can get involved on Wednesday, May 1, during Forestry Field Day at Harbison State Forest. The event will include information on forestry programs and opportunities, prescribed fire and wildfire prevention, backyard habitat gardens, best management practices, and getting involved with districts. Lunch is included. To register for the event, contact Jennifer Morris at [email protected].
- You can also reach out and get involved with your local Soil and Water Conservation District, which is a great way to promote conservation and be a voice for your neighbors. It’s important to have ag voices in the conservation conversation.
