Asheville, NC, March 7, 2025 – U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins surveyed natural disaster damage and met with U.S. Forest Service members in Western North Carolina yesterday, where recent wildfires and hurricanes have caused significant destruction. During her visit, Secretary Rollins toured the Blue Ridge Parkway to witness the devastation left by Hurricane Helene. She then received a wildfire operational briefing and participated in a U.S. Forest Service roundtable with local leaders in Asheville.

“I met with North Carolinians who have suffered unimaginable loss from recent natural disasters,” said Secretary Rollins. “The U.S. Forest Service was well-prepared, assessing wildfire risks in advance and strategically positioning resources to respond quickly. Thanks to their efforts, they were able to contain the fires swiftly. USDA continues to work closely with state and local agencies, as well as first responders, to support these communities and restore the public lands that so many rural residents depend on.”

Following a disaster survey along the Blue Ridge Parkway, Secretary Rollins participated in a U.S. Forest Service briefing on wildfire operations in the region. She then held a partner roundtable with local officials, community members, and U.S. Forest Service personnel to discuss disaster recovery efforts.
