Bayer’s Deltapine cotton brand has just released its new varieties for the class of 2025. Eric Best is the Deltpine Product Manager and says this group has shown a lot of promise.
“So the class of ’25, we knew we had some strong things coming last year. Class of ’24 we only launched two things, but we knew it was right on the heels, both in the Bollgard 3 XtendFlex platform as well as the Bollgard 3 XtendFlex with ThryvOn platform, and growers voted, and growers told us that this was a strong class, and a lot of these were very difficult to make a decision on which is good. They all did well compared to some of those checks.”
Tim Dabbert, Technical Product and Strategy Lead for Deltapine, says the first two varieties are particularly strong for the Mid-South and Southeast.
“Our first ThryvOn with reniform nematode resistance is 2522, so it’s tested this year. Best fit we see is on the coast in South Texas, the Lower Mid South, on reniform acres, and then the southeast also on reniform acres in the upper southeast, it does pretty well, you know, with or without reniform. The next one we have is our latest maturing ThryvOn variety. This is Deltapine 2537, so it’s going to be have a really good fit on heavy soils in the Lower Mid-South, and then on those rain fed acres, tough acres in the Upper Southeast, it’s going to be a really good product.”
The other two varieties show real promise in other areas of Texas.
“2525 is a really early maturing for vert-tolerant variety that’s really going to fit that early plain, so North of Lubbock. It’s not going to go as far north is north of I-40, but kind of in between that, what they call the Plainview corridor, is going to fit really well on those. It’s going to fit mainly on the moderate to high water, right? So not a Dry, tough product, but it’s really going to have really high top end yield, which would be really nice. The last one kind of fits an opposite market, down south, so South Lubbock, 2541 B3XF. So this is really also going to fit on the moderate to high water. It’s got really, really good top end yield potential. So we’re really excited to see this product for that market.”
Best says Deltapine is already looking forward to 2026.
“Right behind this, you know, the things we’ll be evaluating this next year for the class of ’26,I mean, I’m just as excited, if not more excited, for all these regions. I think the other thing that I heard from growers, you know, this year, a lot of times, we have something that fits over here and something over there. In the advancements, there may not be something for every region. And I think generally speaking, this year, irregardless where you are in the Cotton Belt, there’s something in this class of ’25 that probably has a fit on some of your acres against some very strong checks.”
