Cattlemen are Watching Federal and State Issues

Despite coming off of a quiet time of year with the August Congressional recess, local ag groups are keeping a close eye on issues or potential issues from the state or federal level.

Cameron Mulrony, Executive Vice President of the Idaho Cattle Association, says several issues in D.C. have his attention.

“What’s going to come out of the BLM rules? We did see that they’re going to have revised Forest Service range/grazing regulations and some kind of updates. So, we’re keeping an eye on those things that our partners and NCBA really keeps up to up to date on those.”

Mulrony noted there are things he’s watching at the state level.

“We had some legislation last year that was passed in the state to help with depredations of grizzly bears and other large carnivores, so we’re looking at some of the rules and things that might help our producers to take advantage of those legislative moves.”

Mulrony adds that ICA is also keeping a close eye on the election this fall.
