Troxler Calling Farmers to Raleigh to Support Farm Bill

More than two dozen lawsuits are on the dockets claiming hog farms in eastern NC constitute a nuisance to their neighbors. The first of those lawsuits was decided in favor of the plaintiffs, resulting in penalties of $50 million, later reduced by state law to 3 million. In an effort to protect farms and farmers from further legal damages, some state lawmakers are sponsoring a Right to Farm bill, to strengthen the defense of agriculture in NC and attempt to discourage future copycat lawsuits before they are filed. State AG Commission Steve Troxler supports the measure and is calling on farmers to make a show of force in Raleigh on Tuesday.
