Tropical Storm Bertha Forms off SC Coast

A system that drenched Florida this past weekend has now been upgraded to the second named storm of the year off the coast of South Carolina, where it is expected to make landfall later today.

Tropical Storm Bertha has an ill-defined eye, but will dump heavy rains over the Carolinas Wednesday and Thursday as it is expected to track inland towards central and western North Carolina.

A significant amount of this rain may fall in a matter of a few hours, especially along the coast. That intensity of rainfall can be enough to trigger flash flooding, including in cities such as Charleston and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Wilmington, North Carolina.
