The Roots of Your Food

The Certified SC Grown brand has recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary and last month, the brand kicked off a new media campaign called “The Root of Your Food.”  South Carolina Agriculture Commissioner Hugh Weathers tells us more about the new project.

  • The campaign celebrates South Carolina’s rich agrarian heritage and new generation farmers
  • We are encouraging South Carolinians to trace the roots of their food all the way back to the hardworking men and women who grow it
  • These farmers are passionate about their work, their communities, and their place in South Carolina’s agricultural landscape
  • Television commercials, social media posts and web videos
  • These farmers make it possible for us to eat local, delicious food
  • Features ten farmers: Josh Johnson of the Old Thyme Bean Co.; Brittney Miller of Manchester Farms; Danny McAlhaney of D and D Farms; Chris Sumpter of Four Lane Farms; Paul Grant of Freshly Grown Farms; Kent Whetsell of Lowcountry Creamery; Spencer McLeod of McLeod Farms in McBee; Shawn Ransford of Holy City Farms on Wadmalaw Island; Lori Anne Carr of Titan Farms; and Lydia Yon of Yon Family Farms.
  • We highlight everything from a former software engineer turned hydroponics farmer, to a long-time peach grower who embraces state of the art production technology to grow quantity without sacrificing quality
  • Many of these are longtime farmers, while others are relatively new at what they do
  • All in all, they represent agriculture in South Carolina and remind us that we’ll find a dedicated farmer at the root of every meal we eat
  • To quote the commercial: Farmers from every corner of our state are carrying on the traditions of bringing locally grown food to your table. So, choose food that’s rooted right here. Choose Certified SC Grown…It’s a Matter of Taste.
