The Economic Perspective: “Worries for the Housing Market”

Mary:  This is Mary Walden with economist MW, welcoming you to the economic perspective.  Today’s program looks at worries for the housing market.  Mike, the housing market is a big part of our economy.  How is it faring during the coronavirus recession, and are there challenges ahead?

Mike:  Summary Answer

  • Sales – can’t show homes
  • Availability of loans – how will forgiving mortgage payments and rents impact loan availability
  • Income -if virus results in major business and household pullbacks and bankruptcies, how will this affect sales
  • Overall stability of the financial sector – looks good, but still worry
  • I’m MW

Mary:  And I’m Mary Walden for the Economic Perspective, an NC State Extension program from the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics
