The Economic Perspective: “The Latest Reading on North Carolina’s Economy”

This is Mary Walden with economist MW welcoming you to the economic perspective. Today’s program looks at the latest reading on North Carolina’s economy.  Mike, I understand the federal government just released the top measure for economic growth in the states.  What is this measure, and how did North Carolina do?

Mike:  Summary Answer

  • GDP for third quarter 2019, annualized
  • Positive for NC at 2%
  • 2.1% for nation – NC has been falling short due to restructuring, trade war, and slowdown in manufacturing
  • In SE, NC beat Virginia, Mississippi, and Alabama, but lower for other states
  • Fastest growth was in Texas, slowest was in Delaware (0%)
  • I’m MW

Mary:  And I’m Mary Walden for the Economic Perspective, an NC State Extension program from the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics.
