SC Commissioner Hugh Weathers: New Year, Looking Back and Meeting Season

In the ag community, January is often referred to as “meeting season.” Commissioner Weathers is here to tell us all about the happenings this new year.

  • This week we will ring in the new year. I think most of us will be happy to flip the calendar to 2021.
  • As we all know, in-person meetings are few and far between. Many board, commodity and org meetings will be held via zoom this year
  • The SC Agritourism Association, however, has found a way to hold an in-person conference this year.
  • On January 24-26, they’ll meet in the Upstate for a series of farm tours and education sessions, visiting places like the Bart Garrison Agricultural Museum of South Carolina, Chattooga Belle Farm, Whispering Pines dairy, Denver Downs Farm, Walker Century Farm / Providence Farm, Happy Cow Creamery and City Scapes Winery.
  • Some of our other upcoming meetings:
    • January 9th: South Carolina Association of Farmers Markets
    • January 14th: South Carolina Ag Society
    • February 1st: SC Specialty Foods Association
    • February 20th: SC Timber Association
    • February 24th: FFA Day
  • There are more meetings, events and trade shows that will continue to be added to the schedule as we move into the new year.
  • Be sure to check SCDA’s calendar of events at agriculture.sc.gov for more information and updates.
  • Have a Happy New Year!
