North Carolina’s Industrial Hemp Production Progressing

It’s been only two years since NCDA and other have begun working on bringing industrial hemp production to the state through a research program.  There has been a lot of interest, and now 60 farmers have had their permits approved and hemp could be planted this year on close to 900 acres and 84,000 square feet of greenhouse space, and those numbers could go up as more permits are approved.

The counties where farmers have had permits approved range from Perquimans up in the northeast corner, to Haywood in the far western part of the state.

A native of the Texas Panhandle, Rhonda was born and raised on a cotton farm where she saw cotton farming evolve from ditch irrigation to center pivot irrigation and harvest trailers to modules.
