New Tobacco Varieties and Variety Data
Blog Post Top

This year there are three new tobacco varieties available to growers. CC 143 is available from Cross Creek Seed, GL 395 from Gold Leaf Seed, and F. W. Rickard Seed is offering NC 925. Fortunately, each of these new varieties was included in the NC Official Variety Test for at least one-year, and two of the varieties have three-years of data.

Please see the attached OVT data sheets for more information on all varieties including disease resistance ratings. You may notice that one-year data reflect a fair amount of change compared to 2012 data. This change is likely due to the unusual environmental conditions that we faced in 2013. This fluctuation demonstrates why using multi-year data is critical to select varieties with proven performance. Complete OVT data will also be available in the 2014 Tobacco Information Book.
