The North Carolina Small Grain Growers Association is holding a referendum on Wednesday, August 7th to reafirm the .005 assessment on small grains for the next six years. The number of crops covered in this referendum are higher than in previous referendums, it now covers wheat, rye, oats, barley, reapeseed, canola and grain sorghum.
NC's Ag Commissioner Steve Troxler is encouraging all small grain producers in the state to participate in the referendum by stopping by their local FSA office during normal business hours on Wednesday, August 7th. The assessment period would run from January 1, 2014, through December 31, 2019.
The funds support the association's work in grower education, research, marketing and other ways to hlep small grain farmers to be more profitable.
