NCDA’s Food Safety Forum Coming Up

The North Carolina Department of Agriculture’s 13th annual food safety forum is scheduled for Tuesday, August 8th at the NC State Fairgrounds in Raleigh.

North Carolina’s Ag Commissioner, Steve Troxler asks those that plan to attend to please register at ncagr.gov/ncfoodsafetyforum for meal planning purposes.  The event is free of charge, as is the meal.

Roland McReynolds, Executive Director of the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association will talk about the importance of small farms, Chuck Ross, Director of Extension for the University of Vermont will give an update on the implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act, Dr. Steven Taylor, founder of the food allergy research program at University of Nebraska will talk about incorporating allergen controls in food processing facilities, and Dr. Clint Stevens, assistant professor of food sciences education at NC State will demonstrate how he brings the food processing plant into the classroom using virtual reality training.

A native of the Texas Panhandle, Rhonda was born and raised on a cotton farm where she saw cotton farming evolve from ditch irrigation to center pivot irrigation and harvest trailers to modules.
