DAILY MARKET HIGHLIGHTS FOR SFN

 

The following is a summary of market prices and conditions of North Carolina farm products for October 11, 2018 reported by the Federal-State Markets News Service of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.  All livestock is state reported.

 

Cattle:  No livestock auctions held Wednesday, October 10, were covered by the Market News

Service.

 

Broiler-Fryers:  The North Carolina broiler-fryer market was steady, and the live supply was adequate to meet the moderate demand.  Average weights were heavy. The estimated slaughter for Thursday in North Carolina was 3,250,000 head compared to 3,148,000 head last Thursday.

 

Eggs:  The market was steady Small, lower on the balance.  Supplies were mostly moderate. Retail demand was moderate to good. Weighted average prices for small lot sales of grade A eggs delivered to nearby retail outlets: Extra Large 146.51, Large 131.78, Medium 87.78, and Small 58.00.

 

Cotton:  The strict-low middling one and one sixteenth Southeast average price is 76.56 cents per pound; the U.S. average is 73.20 cents per pound.

 

Grain:  U.S. 2 yellow shelled corn was 7 cents higher when compared to last report. Prices ranged $3.94-$4.39 at feed mills and $3.79-$4.09 at elevators.  U.S. 1 yellow soybeans were mostly 6 cents higher. Prices ranged $7.78-$8.23 at the elevators. U.S. 2 soft red winter wheat was 7 cents higher; prices were $3.79-$4.29 at the feed mills and $3.94-$4.09 at the elevators; new crop $4.12-$5.13. Soybean meal, f.o.b. at processing plants, was without a per ton bid for 48% protein.

Sweet Potatoes:  demand moderate.  Market about steady.  Report issued Monday and Thursday.  40 pound cartons Orange Types U.S. No. 1 15.00-16.00 some 17.00 few higher occasional including previous commitments lower, U.S. No. 1 Petite 11.00-14.00 occasional lower, U.S. No. 2 10.00 some 8.00-9.00 few higher, No Grade Marks jumbo 9.00-11.00 few higher and lower.
