NC Livestock Auctions Moving Livestock Higher

At the 2 livestock auctions held Wednesday at Norwood and North Wilkesboro a total of 705 cattle and 3 goats were sold.  Slaughter cows trended $2.00 to $11.50 higher, feeder steers trended mostly $1.00 to $5.00 higher, and heifers trended mostly $7.00 to $18.00 higher when compared to the sale 3 weeks prior.

N.C. Broiler-fryers: The market is steady and the live supply is adequate to meet the moderate demand.  Average weights are desirable to heavy. The estimated slaughter for Thursday in North Carolina is 2,916,000 head compared to 2,879,000 head last Thursday.

Greens: demand moderate. Market is about steady.

Various containers bunched/loose Collard, Kale 6.50-7.50, Mustard, Turnip Tops 6.50-8.00

Sweet potatoes: demand moderate. Market is about steady.

40 lb cartons Orange Types U.S. No. 1 16.00-18.00 few higher and lower U.S. No. 1 Petite 12.00-14.00 few higher and lower U.S. No. 2 8.00-10.00 few higher and lower No Grade Marks jumbo 9.00-10.00 mostly 10.00 few higher occasional lower

Apples: demand moderate. Market is about steady. All varieties graded U.S. Extra Fancy;

Red Delicious 80s -100s 18.00-24.00

Golden Delicious 80s – 100s 22.00-24.00

Rome 80s -100s 18.00-24.00

No. 2 yellow shelled corn trended 5 cents lower when compared to last report.  Prices ranged $4.42-$4.82 at feed mills and $4.02-4.72 at elevators.  No. 1 yellow soybeans trended mixed and were $13.03 and the processors and $12.49-$13.09 at elevators.  No. 2 red winter wheat trended 5 cents lower and ranged $3.82-$4.32 at the elevators.  Soybean meal, f.o.b. at processing plants, was $508.00 per ton for 48% protein.
