NC Commissioner Steve Troxler: Dec. 11 is CFAP 2 Deadline

The Dec. 11 deadline for farmers and ranchers to apply for the federal Coronavirus Food Assistance Program 2 is fast approaching. This program provides direct relief to producers facing market disruptions and associated costs because of COVID-19, and includes 300 eligible commodities.

  • I wanted to remind farmers and ranchers that Dec. 11 is the deadline for applying for the federal Coronavirus Food Assistance Program 2, which includes 300 eligible commodities.
  • This is a USDA program that provides direct relief to producers facing market disruptions and associated costs because of COVID-19.
  • Commodities covered include livestock, crops, specialty crops and aquaculture, so many producers are likely eligible for the assistance.
  • This is a recommended first step before a producer reaches out to their FSA county office.
  • Farmers can also go online at farmers.gov/cfap
  • Producers can find eligible commodities, payment rates, calculations and options to apply on that site.
  • Customers seeking one-on-one support with the CFAP 2 application process can call 877-508-8364 to speak directly with a USDA employee who can offer general assistance.
  • There have been two CFAP programs since this pandemic began. The initial CFAP program is now referred to CFAP 1. These are separate programs, so participating in CFAP 1 is not a prerequisite for participating in CFAP 2.
  • Additionally, producers who applied for CFAP 1 will not be automatically enrolled in CFAP 2, and must complete a new application to be eligible for assistance.
  • This has been a hard year and federal assistance through these programs have been a great benefit to farmers. The assistance is there, so I would encourage any producer who has not applied for CFAP 2 funding to do so now while they still can.
