Thanksgiving is next week and its an outstanding time to remind people that the state farmers markets are open.
North Carolina Ag commissioner Steve Troxler:
“All four state run farmers markets are open, in Asheville, Charlotte, Colfax/Greensboro and Raleigh. They are open all year. Many of the ones opened by counties, cities and towns are still open too.
The four state markets are open every day of the year except Christmas. There is always something going on.
We have over 200 farmers markets in NC, and there are so many options to buy even in the fall. We stay open all year because we grow a diversity of crops here. And across the state, we have a range of climates. We now have farmers that are growing in greenhouses so it extends the growing season. There is always something fresh and local to buy.
We have a Farm Fresh directory in the NC Dept of Ag, and it has information on product availability, locations, hours of operations, and pick your own as well as roadside stands. You can source by county and commodity. Just visit www.ncfarmfresh.com and get all the info that you need.
Many of the farmers markets offer meat products. There is a wide variety to choose from. Christmas trees will also be arriving soon!”
